LBSCR Bogie First Claa coach No. 142
My original intention was to provide a potted history of each coach - but since the main (only?) source of LSWR information is Gordon Weddell's books it is very difficult to do so without plagiarism. Similarly there is a limited range of information about GWR coaches. I have given what are I think are good references should you wish to find out more.

The references I give here are the ones I have used to design the models.
I shall confine myself to various details of interest to modellers that are often missed by other sources.
If you are trying to produce an accurate model at any particular time there is probably no real substitute for photos of the actual coach. Unfortunately you will rarely find a good enough supply of these, so a little guesswork is probably required.

All the references are recommended reading, but are mostly out of print now. You may be able to find second hand copies via railway book specialist dealers, or websites such as Abebooks. With luck they may be reasonably priced, but sometimes are just ludicrously expensive.

Original works drawings are rarely available from the NRM (if you know the right number!).
When you buy a model I can also supply comprehensive drawings that contain all the relevant detail from the original works drawings (where available) but in a format that is easier to understand. Please note I do not sell the drawings separately. Where works drawings are not available I have derived the drawings from a combination of sources - drawings for something similar, preserved coaches, photos, published drawings etc., but they may contain some errors.

There are a few preserved coaches from this period - see the Vintage Carriages Trust's Website -
 http://www.vintagecarriagestrust.org/surveystatus.asp
but the very early ones are often privately owned and inaccessible and may well have suffered many changes since being grounded.
Unfortunately few pre-BR coaches have survived into preservation and far fewer have been restored.
